Today it felt like the end of the world would the Little One would not nap, at all. Then I lost my patience with more than one thing, the pulling things out of the trash can, the dumping and eating of the dog food, I just wanted to call it a day and go to sleep....at 5:45 in the afternoon. <center><br /><br /><center> Then, while waiting for the water to boil for the rice she started fussing and whining. I asked what she wanted and she said 'Momma', melted my heart. I picked her up and she gave me the sweetest hug and patted my back...how could I be frustrated with someone so full of sweetness? <center><br /><br /><center> Not too long after that she was off doing something else that made me want to yell and I was agitated all over again. This parenting thing is full of ups and downs isn't it? She repeated her sweet hugs several times this evening and I am so glad she did. <center><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-57624612591283957422012-11-13T16:27:00.001-05:002012-11-13T16:27:02.874-05:00Molars.<Center>It is nap time for the Little One, but instead of quiet I am listening to her babble and whine on the baby monitor. My muscles are achy and my eyes are tired. These past few weeks have been trying as a Momma. The Little One has been getting her molars and they are coming in fast and furious. She has been a ball of fussiness who rarely sleeps. In addition to the wicked teething she now has an ear infection that sent us to the ER in the wee hours of the morning while we were away for the weekend. <center> <br /><br /><center> I am thankful that I have a partner to do this with or I might have lost my mind about a week ago. Though in those early morning hours we lose all of our courtesies and become a version of ourselves that nobody likes, but at least we are not doing this alone and know that we both are in need of grace from the other.<center><br /><br /><center> I am praying hard that a good nights rest is in store for all of us tonight. <center><br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5810412215990213362'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6udbudVyB6tZWQkNh0vsa_PGqeWewBwgeGIwBFq_U4H41oJAjPc3WiuLEVfuSSjSQ-5sgYy2Z9NYJtMtdf0uVw84zdeEM5rsqjlZTL2ikNVpt69GScQPvX0sML7r1BNDXUhb4NlbalL4/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> A little late but here she is all dressed up for Halloween. This weekend we participated in New Leaf's yearly farm tour. I was so excited, I had been looking forward to this for a couple of weeks, and it was so fun! <br /> This year we headed to Monticello and visited four different farms. The weather was cool and sunny making for a perfect day to be outdoors. We drove to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.goldenacresranchflorida.com/">Golden Acres Ranch</a> first where we took a hay ride, met lots of chickens, sheep and goats and the Little One even got to ride on the horse tire swing. Our Little One was so excited about those chickens! She would touch one and get so excited, it was pretty cute. <br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5802159889562002370'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWcqVGXIi2ILvYrAmJBKTbHJPNp7DfGEtua1J42UbEYPR9pn1yr7RRtTydu8pMLMp4JSHlHjISoarT9visagKidrjXVBJbFf3aIb1lF7fDDR0sO0-2FFe3HABpSLRLyxK-CrelTIbmIGc/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a><br /> Hay ride<br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5802159919771207010'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9ZHJfYhjLuVPd0KzzUCGOk9D-j8KYoGuIltS68smU2BeknmEi5ic0q0x7ooGEeH8Rgtcll59kiUW2uyNWvlVr-gcl5nKZs_6nk44GHIHzinH_uxOlt1DER8kJuNDSKOoiK9bhY9Ci0qc/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a><br /> Meeting the chicken!<br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5802159947059770530'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigpURNKZZw3-vwkpII_ZuIW9BAeTfyGoJaXuvr8Lr9oOW-eUmT5kWU6nE6e0Q9A6zqcsEB_6zB66GrJ3Q6iZ2WU1lix4IMJAxCNAR90fO7GrONmafAzcvEhX1IOXmj0rySJVfF5PYQp_s/s288/4.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a><br /> After the ranch we made our way to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.localharvest.org/green-meadows-farm-M23232?p=2">Green Meadows farm</a> There we saw a really neat greenhouse, vegetable gardens and lots of blueberry bushes. <br /> Our next stop was the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.monticellowinery.com">Monticello Vineyard and Winery</a> . We set up our picnic blanket and ate lunch on the grounds and took a tour. The Little One was woken up from her nap only 5 minutes in and refused to go back to sleep. There was lots of screaming, crying, rocking and bouncing but there was no going back to sleep. It reminded me of these early weeks where there was lots of crying for no apparent reason and nothing seemed to help. Though we have made it to sleeping through the night, eating solids and becoming mobile we now have new challenges. I am praying that I remember that though I am her mom, the Little One really belongs to her Heavenly Father and we Daddy and are blessed with the opportunity to raise her. She really is a blessing to us and has brought so much joy and laughter into our home. <center><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5795880357579752514'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLiLM3T2z19uJgUojgGptwnYqu8eD_UNCzdlgq6mqtPbBVEhqruhT4UZY5ttPhL-wnBI1rtKkT9E5gVDDwNT6SsWvBO3_qbnu52CTJ_JCKpdyA_k43FXwEIc0xHKDML3COMVSPU857vXg/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5795880381229896066'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJFGJg__X3DrxYuWp-kIuM-ic6FmcAUrLlamvFOEQZwgLiHrzDmlvt3dj1ZTxLLdpPgs0GSwGLnI7pgleHwUVQEc67TYZxlIcYyDNm2l04Bzc09r5ts_WRV8GDuxgnNUi8Zoe5DF-DWfY/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-57777097971698530002012-09-29T11:25:00.001-04:002012-09-29T11:25:53.569-04:00What we've been up to. It's gotten busy around here, but then slow at the same time. I have started back to work part-time (very part-time, like 9-12 hours a week) and it has been lovely. However it seems to make the days where I don't have work go very slowly, this also may be due to the Little One refusing her second nap three days this week. I thought she was dropping that nap then she went a whole week and a half with two naps and now for three days just one. So who knows. <br /> Here are a few pictures of what we have been up to.<br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5793620089662764498'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8YxtnxvUifwiYew3pDR1Q4MFijLOraW-2VG4wPh5QPnLqpGoKrbfXmfkurstvPmfyBfMCRABVVpsjsTSjczk0gD9etNGp3bs6ENTeLFGlZgqZe3KAb9oeWkEOv1sSuFxaYBoaMjPfT9M/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a><br /> The laundry basket car was a huge hit, she cried when I got too tired of pulling it.<br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5793620117160599362'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT2D-njO0g7kjro7Ulnwq2F14TCzVY3OoK6i9tS4cipRbZeVB7Zdz-LZX6I3FBXzIU_6KM30GeJfmr1HEsHzc57KByIMbgZN1aMX-mJi4KWbDTNG1EhHRPAPjpxusXelDVo9BKaNbT5DY/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a><br /> We took the kids I work with to the local art center, man this was so fun! I cannot tell you have thankful I am that it was a 24 hour bug...for the most part. Today I am still recovering, but I have been able to keep down the few things I have eaten and can walk from one room to another without having to sit down on the floor and rest. I was so thankful that my mother-in-law was able to take the Little One for the day and the hubs came home from work early because this girl was good for a whole lot of nothin'.<center><br /><br /><center> Before the bug hit I was working on a few things for the Etsy shop since it has been awhile. I even had a request for a custom order, those always make me feel good! The hubs's sister gave birth to a healthy baby girl in the wee hours of the morning. We are so overjoyed to have another little girl in the family. This Little One is their fifth, the other four all boys. Let me tell you those boys were some kind of excited when we met them at the hospital, that little girl is going to be looked after very well.<center><br /><br /><center> I got to take some pictures of her and her mommy and daddy. Getting the chance to capture a little bit of the wonderfulness of a brand new baby and the love struck parents is something good. It was a joy and then going back and looking over them gives me that warm fuzzy feeling. <center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5781080677638431090'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA7ZIOdDAyrHEh8Cwj5c2P1a4GL26a6WSMFJ_Jj3LllJz8FBYJqWMaj0-_RktXbjUp-llo_DuE3i4fjUGVwmoC6sGDVDr0WpVyuRjlqWDRf9MNPOmWXW-qqyx1lF1FXbS8_ZB6k5_m94M/s288/4.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5781080701851913314'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijTFcZkVcowDScD69mHXighu17gN60ozPyTSEq-HCVR5dFtCu6DHcBSEJfe85Agi3KYbuMTs1amGywyAUjIs1HOYeJIzuNI4gE2_FnDZuf-PM5CXa-wUyINtMK8d5Dq-o_RaKGhvjsYbc/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />-<br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5781080725253937314'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj30Ldb5qEjb7OogUhYSzrWC5HQjGoYV6HOvTipc5-N1oQWGLopOe10ezLFiThMW16nUQw9C4Rh6MO7SSHOBBud6ZJvNgQHMbRkaRN70Xpyg1Iclx8xoBzQNNkCkgeOgd31oYcJLfi7pAk/s288/5.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5781080741900400194'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglgr4lUfyuw5DPw-rVBoycRLoaZulPlvdgDtvBtCb4CitAHavQJgdTYmJXuCCoshYn8AC_gjYbYWpygLtmc3JG5hYUPvxZ0XqXV80AywcKyzQZKPApelHWila9brW2NH88hyphenhyphenUntRrVguY/s288/6.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5781080766943038722'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaqeH1XprmI10xV8wwcZq-u4sHeAkyYHpOjHBvQnKVveiy5J678Mw2Y2cwgC_mVV_ScvjEeMXa-Mo1F0s-8PnYGgmz8JWzLqP8Lw2E9FRsOF63lmUtG2Yb3BruNaoSwbM25jdI2BtIYDk/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> Isn't she beautiful?<center><br /> <br />Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-6869164960987849142012-08-23T16:38:00.001-04:002012-08-23T16:38:46.830-04:00The Party!<center>With the Little One turning one, it was cause for a little party. We were not only celebrating her birthday but the fact that her Daddy and I survived our first year of parenting. I heard (or saw on Pinterest) someone say that just because motherhood is common, doesn't make it easy. That has stuck with me this year because I have felt overwhelmed at this massive responsibility more than a few times. <center> <br /><br /><center> I am not too much of a party girl, large amounts of people tend to suck the energy right out of me, but I do love to decorate for one! So I spent some time paper crafting weeks before our little shindig. Since our budget doesn't have party supplies included in it I had to figure out how to create some cuteness out of a few dollars. Let me say that I am thankful for those 40% off coupons that JoAnns sends out! I also spread out my spending so it didn't take away but a tiny bit away from the bank account at a time. <center><br /><br /><center>I only used a few supplies:<center><br /><center>ribbon, scrapbook paper, dowels, pushpins, paint, balloons and a paper bag<center><br /><br /><center> I already had a lot of ribbon left over from other projects and I even used some that had been attached to gift bags when I was really getting low. The biggest expense was the pack of scrapbook paper which was $19.99, but I used that lovely 40% off coupon for that! So here is what I was able to do:<center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5779970105721745826'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9srA7TjnXft6AsWoTKZOW0zMojnC-gA98-RQegCZ7IPUsbRNE7NiWDXEvVjoJqNpya0Rpl9iH_VpdJwCN_RMQi5Mbhls0Qy94T09Moaw20HBUz0y-N9z1KmgHAILgopI_OWOCx_305cE/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='191' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5779970248589278530'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxlcPN5UQ7gR_R52HJTJyBAPkYFpdyjZ_o42SGNQzEpCuNcFiejZkHFTwhudvaVOYSd4Ea7grVlQ3xJrGv6sZZvLqS9SAb4ugKFRtauuLM2hzokL0LYFxZmwZSNDjO5SdaW2bC6BpMed0/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5779970428391742834'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNwstbT05WUdsCKBDDHovoArvwKkNwkFtQ-uHrr0F2ukPsjxOmJKGXZShX0rikfmiXZVSdtG8YhLwUCW8n2TlI44sscOjWyN6602lu2T-GycbgMmI-all89PiLuh22uZvvs96yEYrv-F8/s288/4.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5779970453272131362'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp_Pry6LytS4XGVn8DQmlPNi5hcgH_Yh-aGPxGaB2o7HDGLvj43fSMlZMP6KXS_JmlMNkG55LKNTvYDpH1C0sJUuowZJhoZqt_1-4guAGKv2_8_oXFOgRTv2QtYJh_aoyCEKUC0JQdCxQ/s288/5.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='177' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> Don't those cupcakes look yummy? This time last year we were spending our first night home with our newborn. I do not remember that first night, heck I really don't remember much of the first few weeks at all. It is all a blur of doctors visits, spit up, sore breasts and late nights. I have been told that you forget the pain of labor and the crazy person you become when you haven't slept, showered or left the house in days. I do admit that it is hazy now, but not at all forgotten. <center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5779314898007676674'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC8R2Zhknh60OEq2cSV5lkeIS_cMKVBiwEBlH95Fq2j7ARsikL3Tsp1E7uwzDqUzwSTasYC7d-mnyPwl3IH9soBotHoDZqBqz_ivBfZQgstlMBfvjd6DhVmybsyRLufkCAIbH555E9yrM/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> Somewhere between six and nine months we turned a corner and I felt like we were both getting settled and figuring out how to do this thing, at least a little bit. I am learning to go with my gut and let me Little One tell me what she needs and it sure does work better than trying to guess what she needs or giving her something she doesn't need.<center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5779314924842096002'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvuL5KAA9nhL2R8bFMRfz9txEkdQam61fYCfsEVo2mrJY5sWddt_04fVSvvohwwU-CQ1Mea13jznf5eugzLhAex42eZVrBgcefn3Bqj4zQeHCod_DVUMxBt6V1mK9hlL3ZtTWb5r3VIWo/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='222' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center>She is learning the world at an incredible rate and it's hard to believe that she has taken in so much in one years time. I had a twinge of sadness, but I am happy we made it! I am excited for what is to come. I am not ready for major sleep deprivation and all that comes with having a newborn just quite yet.<center><br /><br /><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-32653305285665758932012-08-07T12:04:00.001-04:002012-08-07T12:04:34.509-04:00Sharing.<center>The house is quiet except for the crickets coming through the baby monitor. We have one of those giraffes that lulls your baby to sleep with different soothing sounds, the Little One likes the crickets the best.<center><br /><br /><center> I am sitting here in the quietness wandering what to write about. I am not sure if I have ever shared why I started this little blog. A little over a year ago I started a little Etsy shop of a few crochet items. I love yarn and I love the feeling I get when I have created an item that will be treasured and loved on. I love to create in general. Creating something lovely stirs something inside me like nothing else. Now I am not wildly talented at any form of art but I love it. I do think that is one of the reasons I enjoy working with kids, they are always imagining and creating. The Etsy market is quite saturated and I thought a blog might help with getting my little shop out there. Well I cannot say that the blog has been successful at that aspect of it. However it has provided an outlet for me to share pieces of this new life I am now living, the life where someone calls me "momma". <center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5773962769843382402'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZILa4hBzIOUtAMOpUHLI7KicRcdoWiP5H2A81I6nAciceOsab5bG-cf76nDeRvk87zRh4L65J7keiRfIMLNl0sA-pd6PFto4SseztzO79FIURhVGPs75sG2KLHRJUWdJ46iWGmz8v-5A/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> I keep imagining different routes I could go with this little space that I have to share... I could try my hand at creating recipes, I could share in detail the steps we have taken as a family to minimize our exposure to chemicals and pesticides, I could post crafts...but so many others are doing that. I am not sure I have any thing new to add to those topics. Maybe I'll just stick with what I've been doing, sharing my experiences. <center><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5773962793954053218'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtMYAk28R3kKl5WCAX1dFHbEjK4cLwzDFhxEMENF6M9oCdQplOBS4Gh2ami6uN1Ipu_qfgE741SwI_DbGf4yoHqH-mi7AhEBTBCW5VsexVAKILSGM6t_jFlSK_CSjigDXKACQKz4PoqCw/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-78612359088631452532012-07-31T11:36:00.001-04:002012-07-31T12:06:01.444-04:00Lazy days of Summer.<center>So it's been awhile. I really don't have any excuses besides it's summer and I have given into it's lazy days. <br />Our days have't consisted of much and we have no schedule...this makes it hard to for me to get motivated to do much other than what is absolutely necessary. <br />I have been doing a good amount of cooking, especially recipes from pinterest, I have way too much fun finding recipes there! My husband, mister routine, is getting tired of trying new things. If he had it his way we would eat the same 7 meals over and over. <center><br /><center>I made this yummy <a target="_blank" href="http://www.flourishingfoodie.com/2012/03/creamy-avocado-pasta.html?m=1">pasta</a> last week. It was the perfect summer meal, I even made my own pasta! <br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5771357901331189026'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioCsOvaOuY1nsbVf7S_LNgwioozbbAk5mMQ_m__iR3dAs3FjgmfLwVOShiCg3qwBc4NM-h5Q80pEJJsPdgkL-_Ce6AkPTPr7EJiMjctDQ2dmHAZLXcvcnH2WNIDroRUoNAVEMi1sE2K5U/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='203' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a><br /><center>I have also been doing a little crafting for the Little Ones birthday that is fast approaching! We aren't having a grand birthday party, just a little family celebration but I can't help myself when it comes to party decorating!<center> <br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5771357932419218018'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDzADCQOFP1x5sz5aA80nEkUYfnEWoGSlyreOSb1INfa21ibDNRouS48SRBW-5ujkEWBe2JNuSb8ayoFBQosN0_FFY5cUjfq9wekNh5s2_G7EWLXl-YwD6yNAeGuqRtTJHXWGleWeUO28/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a><br />The Little One is staying busy getting into everything imaginable and WALKING everywhere! I guess it's time to get some shoes. How is this all happening so fast?! The mister has next week off so we are planning for more laziness, and maybe a day trip to the beach! We will be soaking up this last bit of summer that's for sure! <br />Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br /><br />ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-40631685333293221382012-07-07T12:25:00.001-04:002012-07-07T12:25:46.169-04:00A Little Crafty Fun.<center>Yesterday the Little One and I were having one of those days. I didn't want to take her outside in the morning because the mosquitos have been so bad, and in the afternoon it was muggy and overcast so I didn't want to get the pool out. We did go out for a bit and play in our makeshift water table which ends up being a mini pool for her since she insists on climbing in it. <center><br /><br /><center> I was watching her play with the empty water bottle that she has been carting around ever since the Fourth of July and got the idea to make her one of those ocean in a bottle things. I just used the Fourth of July bottle, some baby oil I had gotten at a baby shower and had never used, food coloring, water and some beads I had from some long ago craft. I hot glued the top on and I was done!<center><br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5762464510364172866'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjd5gXU3ZHtWG25AgadeBYL4V9abWIDiAxCsMLwMv5HnpErc1Txj-B1RJfDo2Q8Qqs4Dx087rwa4064gTLmd2fRH80m_WXcSCdRi5lpB0s7D-21Muh1MPj4ZLEFSp-tJELyQZAT8sUjL0/s288/4.jpg' border='0' width='400' height='400' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> This bottle has been the best toy!<center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5762464553537296674'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk4w073xACvyIMQtkhYt_LOoH7i1zgZg8erFYj2ZWWiViUBQ-DEemKMO_CKIGU3wR19qrXgUpJfSuih0wMTdTVFVbf7fOZUydVqA8IL7UNjVTCjx2W_jOnJrpGcXwBkpxwHJE3EMigKO8/s288/1.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> This is what was going on while I was assembling the ocean in a bottle. <center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5762464585284642962'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOQ8D5M4xWz3et1kfp3DJUN5nzhN9-wgihwbJYM0RQzbOyG3Nk4D-WBABYLKfv6EIrQlCy7Y2ufeN4DUtiUEArPaZC8Ne8Qg8AaNtQ8ONsaAPa_2sfgEy7a7bjlouPRNNKVb6L6ERO2x4/s288/2.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> The completed project!<center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge02?authkey=Gv1sRgCIze0ZbdorGASQ#5762464611533401698'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj95-XMcWLYpqS1yQwVcezsxbdOL6HI6xod8yWkM0Nfpy5hEPeisy1f5EgiBducniPZc7Xe6BBDCSjLCvZQxze76UGUyW4XlftIaP6tvDCshNTdHEeCtgq1Us2bL8uvS3kwcvlfHypdLrg/s288/3.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><center> One happy baby! Well I do. This is my third year gardening at home and while I am no master gardener it brings me great joy to watch over and love on some plants with the hope that they will provide me with some produce.<center><br /><br /><center> Here it's all organic, free of pesticides and chemicals...this does cause me some frustration though. Pickle worms have been the end of many of my vegetables over the past three years and it seems nothing will keep them away, except that which I refuse to use. <center><br /><br /><center> Nothing got the tomatoes this year though! I have never done so well with tomatoes before, I have just been giddy when I go out into the garden and come back with more tomatoes than I can fit in my fists. You can only eat so many salads with tomatoes so this year I had to find something else to do with my lovely batch of tomatoes before they went bad. So I am making my very own marinara sauce.<center><br /><br /><center> Who knew that preserving tomatoes was such a process? It had been on it's death bed for quite some time but we were trying to make it hold on since buying something new was not in the budget. We decided to give up on the pc and went for an iPad since we mainly Internet surf at home. Let me tell you, it's a whole new world! There is an app for everything and no flash player (who knew that flash player is used for such much?).<br />So this is my second attempt to blog from the iPad...I downloaded an app and hopefully this one works well since I had to pay for it. I'm going to attempt some pictures... <center><br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge?authkey=Gv1sRgCJW_1IOj18eXQA#5747625257455279330'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyUrg9Qe6Enp91s8PgaECqMx1tDNciwqLwOPPYUZeb5BBdXEnE4w-6zV0RH0WUOvcQEU4aHIO85lMd5cJexU5MWLeRFRvaknTmwxIZVEeL0mGJYmeypDeZB_6qvhjlb4ZC9nPKH7FV3ak/s288/0.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a><br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge?authkey=Gv1sRgCJW_1IOj18eXQA#5747625372274715778'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZxE9lqmDRBH0XsKbVTKpK-0ZRIe1hGFusyd4T9H5jl-cK93gVOEh-XMY-4GhFJiCLNjFqiakMdAwWYLG-8ePQpyZR0QrVqTLiqgQ7NInnv9M1BsoFkYOPRSM0He8PImRHjYLgJkjgLTA/s288/1.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='186' style='margin:5px'></a><br /><a href='https://picasaweb.google.com/100573758621611001857/ItZaHodgePodge?authkey=Gv1sRgCJW_1IOj18eXQA#5747625642176605842'><img src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuFk6w3qR9-ndSHcKFGBRPVsG_mFl2MqvyTvxcSqQZVA1nalv0vQI-FeRoICKbbJKuzZxCGm0VI_pjmEj-2hZ81cPSM83q5kP8k_0lU32zKXBclGCZQE9HwJv2CghyphenhyphenWVjft5LGDPwPMXo/s288/0.jpg' border='0' width='186' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a><br /><br />ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-33619347725675199592012-05-18T15:45:00.000-04:002012-05-18T15:45:08.528-04:00A Sweet Moment.<div style="text-align: center;">
The Little One is taking an epic nap so I am hoping to get this post done in one sitting...we'll see. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have not shared this part of my life with the blog world yet but something happened that was just too good to keep to myself! On Wednesday afternoons I go and volunteer with elementary aged kids in a nearby city. This little city and I have a long history and I love it despite it's troubles. There are few opportunities for kids after school so for a few we offer a safe place to play, homework help, snack and some lovin. </div>
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">These boys love some basketball! </td></tr>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This last Wednesday we started to prepare for our end of the year program and one of our young girls decided she did not want to participate. After much prodding and encouraging by a volunteer this little lady began to sing.That girl has a special gift from God. Now I don't know if she knew she had it but we sure didn't. As I watched her shyly sing 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' tears welled up in my eyes (this happens all the time now since I had the Little One) and I got chills. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now this may not seem like a big deal but oh it was! This little girl has had a difficult time and to hear the sweetness come out of her mouth when usually she hides her tenderness was a moment I will never forget. </div>

Today I haven't felt so well but the Little One has been full of energy. Since my energy level is low there has been a lot of laying around watching her play. It has been really good entertainment! She has started babbling constantly when she plays and she sure does have a lot of say. Watching how something grabs her attention and how she is learning to use her body to navigate is just plain neat. I am thankful that she is happy to play by herself though she is getting into everything! This week she has broken a clock radio, dumped out two decks of cards, played in the dog's water, got into my yarn stash and pretty much everything else she can get her hands on! </div>

All these pictures came from one afternoon, the house looked like a mini tornado had passed through by the time she was done. </div>ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-53638535627185880732012-05-02T17:00:00.000-04:002012-05-02T17:00:05.134-04:00What I've been working on<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There hasn't been much going on in the Etsy shop lately. One because I feel like I don't have time to crochet (maybe a little less Pinterest would help that) and number two when I do feel like I have time I am acutally working on something for my own daughter. I have only crocheted her one other thing, a sweet hat for when she was tiny, she wore it is these <a href="http://www.frontporchfarmphotography.blogspot.com/2011/09/emma-rose-came-for-visit-tallahassee_19.html" target="_blank">pictures</a>. Besides that, nothing, I started a bunny for Christmas but he's still not done. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have had some projects that have kept me busy though. Here are a few: </div>

I went prepared with my list and my reusable bags and this morning the hubby got to come along to help! The Little One loves the grocery store but it is sometimes difficult to shop with her so I was thankful for the extra hands. <br />
<br />
When we reached the eggs I grabbed the organic eggs. My husband quickly noted the significant price difference. My response was yes but it is important for us to put more healthful food into our bodies rather than eggs that have come from chickens who are fed a diet with hormones and have no access to the outside. My husband is frugal with a degree in finance so paying more for food can sometimes be a battle. He really has to be convinced that it is really important and even then I think it pains him to know what we pay for certain items in comparison to mainstream. This is why he usually does not participate in the grocery shopping.<br />
I won't lie I still cringe when I compare prices or when conventional items are on sale and organic seems to NEVER be on sale. For example those really good deals where conventional chicken is $1.99/lb I am tempted to just give in and stock up on cheap chicken. <br />
<br />
Since the Little One has entered the picture I have gotten much more passionate about food and nutrition. I really enjoy cooking now and reading about our food system. I worry about what goes into her little body and I want to do my best to give her the healthiest start that I can. I read this <a href="http://www.livinghealthymom.com/healthy-life/" target="_blank">post</a> awhile back about how as the one who does the grocery shopping and the majority of the cooking I am responsible for the health of my family. That is a huge responsibility and one that I take very seriously. This is why I take the extra time to make whole wheat rolls from scratch, bread from scratch, make my own chicken broth, granola bars and to buy as much organic produce as I can afford! So we do pay more for some items but it is worth it to me to do my part to keep those I love healthy.<br />
<br />
This is not to say that delivery pizza does not show up in our house or that we completely abstain from fast food because we don't! I love a good pizza and as long as it is in moderation I'm OK with it. <br />
<br />

If you are on the fence about processed food or organic vs. conventional produce I STRONGLY recommend watching <a href="http://www.takepart.com/foodinc" target="_blank">Food inc</a>.. Knowing what is going into your body and where it comes from is empowering! <br />

Well I really missed those things today. Getting us all out of the house for church on Sunday morning is always a challenge, but lately it seems to have gotten worse. Both the mister and I woke up grumpy this morning, it probably had something to do with the Little One waking up at 6:00am for the past two mornings instead of her usual 7:00am. We get through the morning and I put the Little One down for a nap-she got a good hour in before I had to wake her up, but because I HATE to wake a sleeping baby I didn't go in until late, which of course makes us late to church. This usually isn't a big deal but when we're both grumpy everything is a big deal.<br />
<br />
The Little One's separation anxiety is getting worse. The hubby and I had a date night last night (the second one since the Little One's arrival) and my sister and her hubby came out to babysit. All was well until after dinner when she decided she was done for the day- maybe because she woke up an hour earlier than usual. My sister called to tell me she wouldn't go to sleep and was quite upset, thankfully we were already on our way home. Once we got home she calmed down and I put her to bed no problem. Then this morning in church the nursery worker came to get me and let me know that she was screaming and inconsolable, so we got her, calmed her down and headed home. It was the end of the service so we didn't miss anything but we barely got to talk to anyone but the people in the nursery since we got there late and left early. <br />
<br />
I think we are slowly rebounding and everyone is feeling much better this afternoon but gosh I'm wondering if we are ever going to be able to go out to dinner AND a movie.ItZaHodgePodgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05464652219967537506noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5040289200301152837.post-3132655572461798362012-04-23T17:30:00.000-04:002012-04-23T20:02:43.037-04:00Cuteness.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
On this Earth Day I thought I would share with you a few
ways our family attempts to be ‘green’. In this last year we have made a lot of
changes in this area and I am so glad we have. It seems that the ‘green’ thing
is quite trendy but we have not made these changes to keep up with the Jones
but to have a healthier family and to do our part to take care of the earth
that God has blessed us with. I believe that we should be good stewards of what
we are given, our planet included. We still have a long way to go but here is
what we do:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Recycle </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Compost</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Make our own<a href="http://www.diynatural.com/homemade-laundry-detergent-soap/" target="_blank"> laundry detergent </a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Make our own <a href="http://www.easy-aromatherapy-recipes.com/homemade-all-purpose-cleaner.html" target="_blank">all purpose cleaner </a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Cloth diaper our Little One</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
Use re-usable<a href="http://itzahodgepodge.blogspot.com/2011/11/one-more-way-to-be-green-with-little.html" target="_blank"> baby wipes</a></div>
